Having friends over, combined with some days off work, meant that I did some touristing in and around Tokyo. And it’s a great city to be a tourist in, some days it’s almost too hard to decide what to do or where to go.
What are these photos about?
On the other side of the mountains below, Mount Fuji rises. But this day was way too cloudy and no Fuji was to be seen.
New Years celebrations in Japan is very different from what I’m used to. And while I’m here, why not embrace it. Hatsumōde - is the first visit to a shrine or temple in the new year. It’s often done during the first hours of the new year. We choose to go south, down to Kamakura, to take part in the traditions. As a city known for its shrines and temples, Kamakura is a popular destination during these first days of the new year.
Little did we know that it was so popular, that we had to wait 2-3 hours in line just go get in to the temple and pray.
Since arriving here, I’ve been working a lot. But most importantly I’ve been hanging out with all the people I work with. They definitely make it easier to get out of the bed on a Monday morning.
